New Vineyard Plantings
Over the past week, we completed the planting of new vines, Barbera and Fiano, across selected sections of the vineyard.
This work forms part of a long-term plan to gradually rejuvenate the site. The intention is not to expand production quickly, but to reset parts of the vineyard in a considered way and ensure the varieties planted are well suited to this part of Central Victoria.
Planting conditions were challenging. The ground was hard, the weather fluctuated, and progress was slower than ideal. That is often the reality of vineyard work. Early stress is not necessarily a negative and can encourage vines to establish deeper root systems as they settle in.
Each vine was planted by hand, with guards installed to protect young growth, and compost and mulch applied. The rows have been laid out to integrate with the existing blocks and infrastructure already in place.
These vines will not contribute fruit for some time. That delay is expected and accepted. Decisions like this are made with the long-term in mind rather than the next season.
This planting marks the first visible step in the next stage of the vineyard’s development. Further work will continue in stages as conditions allow.
With the new plantings now in the ground, focus can return to the growth of the established vines as we move into the 2026 vintage.
