France 2011

John’s visit to France last September/October was a busy and enjoyable time comprising of visits to the winemakers at Chateau DuFort and Chateau Kirwan, both in the Medoc region near Bordeaux. Discussions were very open on different techniques of the wine making process and some of these will be adopted by us. The 2 weeks following at the Haut Chateau with Winemaker Sean Feely were also most interesting doing a vintage of Merlot and late picked Semillion. The hands on experience both in the vineyard and winery was fantastic and the discussions most evenings about organic and biodynamic methods (over a glass of wine or two) were invaluable.

2011 Harvest

A good 2011 harvest considering the mildew issues which affected most vineyards. The regular spray programme with the use of organic sprays assisted us in achieving good fruit quality.

2010 Rose

The 2010 Rose was released last October and is selling well. For those who like a wine with a soft berry fruit bouquet and a refreshing dry finish on the palate you will enjoy the delicate characters of this wine.

Chardonnay & Merlot Plantings

The Chardonnay and Merlot plantings are developing well and with vigorous top growth some severe summer pruning was necessary to improve vine root structure in preparation for next season. We were fortunate to have the help of Cindy and Aurelie, two girls from France to assist Judy with the summer pruning.
